Astro Boy was a very good movie. It had great animation, clever writing, terrific voice acting, and loads of heart. I liked it better than any other animated film I’ve seen. I think Summit’s to blame for Astro’s weak performance. It’s notorious for not being able to open films well (with the exception of Twilight – like IT needs any help). The promotion of the film was terrible, and its release in mid-October was virtually a death sentence, with Halloween arriving the following week and with “Where The Wild Things Are” as competition (although that film really sucked IMO). I feel bad for the artists at Imagi, and everyone else who worked on this really wonderful movie. Their skill and devotion shines from every frame.
