The manga industry might do better with digital comics if they’d just publish it all in one easily accessible place.

    Great ANE Kaylyn!

I’ve been meaning to try reading manga on the iPad, since I won one in a contest a couple months back, but just don’t feel like doing it as I still prefer to read a physical copy.

It’d be illegal to have one website that has all of the manga in one convenient place, because that would be a monopoly. I suggest that each individual manga publisher just have a website that gives you the ability to download the manga.

If each company put all their manga in one website like that, it would be far superior to what seems to be going on now. Each e-reader seems to have a few exclusive titles, and that is annoying. I don’t even want to buy ONE, let alone a bunch of them. Manga’s an expensive hobby without adding “buy an Ipad” to the to-do list.

The best hope for that happening at the moment is the Crunchyroll platform, but few details have been released, and there is no news as yet whether it will be used that way, or whether it will end up adding to the fragmentation.

You are assuming that it is available there and nowhere else … MarzGurl’s argument is that it should be available in one easy to use place, but does not imply that it has to be exclusive …

… and even if it was exclusive, as long as it was adopted by the choice of the original creator or their agent, that would be perfectly legal.

The whole point of copyright is to grant the creator of a work the right to say who can and cannot copy it. They have the right to refuse to give permission for digital distribution at all, if they wish, so they certainly have the right to grant exclusive permission to a distribution on a particular channel.
